Two months after the start of school, a first milestone with the students/fellows
Late October, the eight students sponsored by the CultiVar project were invited for a meeting with the following main objectives : - verify their integration after 2 months, - detect their possible difficulties and - help them to identify their future Master internships
The major difficulty for the non-francophone students was related to language, as some of them did not fully understand French upon their arrival in Montpellier, to follow the classes properly. CultiVar management will try to address this issue more carefully for the next cohort recruitment.
Interviewed about their suggestions to improve welcoming procedures in 2017, the students proposed to set up a mentoring system so that newcomers feel less isolated and more integrated. They proposed to act themselves as mentors for their successors !
The meeting allowed also to bring together students' wishes with a dozen of internship offers by the research units partners of the CultiVar project.
